The Importance of Holidays for 55+ Communities
At Silvefren, we understand that holidays can be important to the members of our 55+ independent living community. That's why we put together this list of holidays and why they might be important to your loved ones over the age of 55.
Keep reading to discover why holidays matter, how we support your loved ones, and how you can help us achieve our goal of bringing heartwarming moments to our community for every holiday.
Major U.S. Holidays
There are several major U.S. holidays to consider for 55+ communities. The easiest way to tell if a holiday is a major one is to consider whether it occurs on the same date each year or the same day. Major holidays occur on the same data each year. For example, Christmas always occurs on December 25, marking it as a major holiday. These holidays include:
- Juneteenth.
- Independence Day.
- Thanksgiving.
- Christmas.
- New Years.
Major holidays are often a time when families come together, celebrate, remember, and have a good time. In our independent living community, we enjoy providing spaces to celebrate with your loved ones. We also have plenty of recommendations on places to visit and activities to do in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area.
We also understand that many people come together around the dining table for holidays and offer dining options for our community members and tips for dining in the local area.
Minor U.S. Holidays
Minor U.S. holidays almost always occur on the same day each year, but the date will typically change. For example, Labor Day is always the first Monday in September. These holidays include:
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- Memorial Day.
- Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples' Day.
- Veterans Day.
While these holidays are often smaller, some members of our community may celebrate them. The best way to know is to communicate with them and remember to support them during the holidays they care about. For veterans, this can be especially important on Memorial Day and Veterans Day when they remember people they may have known or experiences they had.
Other Holidays and Celebrations
Every person is different, and celebrating diverse holidays is important. If you know someone in our 55+ independent living community who celebrates other holidays and would love people to recognize it, help us by contacting our team and exploring a way to celebrate together. We and our community appreciate you.
